So many turnips…so little time. I’ve found some great recipes in Vivian Howard’s book Deep Run Roots as well as Vegetables Every Day by Jack Bishop. There were some interesting dishes I’d like to try on the Epicurious, Bon Apetit and Southern Living sites. Karen’s work at the Flying Pig, LLC inspired me to try two kinds of Turnip Kraut. I started with a recipe from Mother Earth News. But so far my favorite recipe puts all that wonderful Shiso that I’ve been growing to good use; it’s Pickled Turnips with Shiso found in Southern Living’s Little Jars, Big Flavors. On my list to try this week are braised turnips glazed with apple cider, or maple syrup. If I’m brave enough there was an interesting recipe in The Lucky Peach Power Vegetables! (thank you Zach!) for Turnips, Garlic and Anchovies.
